Prerequisites
Qualtrics Account and App Feedback Setup
To leverage the Qualtrics SDK, you need to have a Web and App Feedback (WAF) project within Qualtrics. In the WAF project, you need to create a Mobile Embedded Feedback or Mobile App Prompt creative, an intercept that uses this creative, and a survey that is the target of the creative. This requires a Qualtrics account. If you do not have an account, please reach out to your Admin to have an account provisioned, or have them provide the IDs required for moving forward.
For more information, please refer to the documentation on building mobile app intercepts and creatives.
Once you have created and published your intercept, you need to save its IDs. See Finding your Intercept IDs. You'll use these IDs later in code when you initialize the SDK. You will need your Brand ID, Project ID, and Intercept ID.
Platform Specific Requirements
- Android
- iOS
- React Native
- Flutter
Android Specific Requirements
- Android SDK
21or higher - Java
7or higher - Gradle
3.0.1or higher
To use the Qualtrics SDK, you need to have Android Studio installed. This tutorial uses Android Studio version
4.1.3, but the steps should be similar if you are using a different version.
iOS Specific Requirements
- The latest version of Xcode installed. The examples in this guide were built with Xcode version
12.4and Swift5.3 - iOS
15.0+ - Swift
3.2or higher - The latest version of the Qualtrics Mobile SDK
Only iOS apps built with Objective-C or Swift are supported.
React Native Specific Requirements
Development Environment
- Node.js (
v18recommended) - React Native CLI
- Xcode (for iOS development)
- Android Studio (for Android development)
- CocoaPods
- Terminal application
Supported Versions

21) and later
Environment Versions Used in Documentation
- Node.js
v18 - Java
17 - Xcode
16.0
This tutorial is designed for macOS, which is required for iOS development. Please refer to the React Native documentation for setup on other environments and for up-to-date installation instructions.
Expo Projects
This tutorial assumes creating the basic app using the standard React Native approach. React Native apps can also be created using create-react-native-app, which is supported by Expo.
However, to add native mobile SDKs built in Java/Swift like the Qualtrics Mobile SDK, an extra step to eject an Expo project is required (instructions here).
This will create explicit android and ios folders within the project that can be opened in Android Studio and Xcode respectively.
React Native New Architecture Support
Since React Native 0.68, you can build your app using either the old or new architecture. You can find out more about this and how to enable it in the official React Native documentation.
Starting with version 2.10.0, Qualtrics SDK supports the new architecture on both Android and iOS. Previous versions support the new architecture only on Android.
