After reviewing this guide you should have a high-level understanding of XM Extensions and be ready to continue your XM Extension SDK journey!
Prerequisites
Before proceeding with this guide, we recommend that you first go through the XM Extension SDK Overview.
What
XM Extensions enable developers to customize and integrate with Qualtrics through native user interfaces that customers can discover and configure within the Qualtrics product.
This differs from API-based integrations, such as the Qualtrics REST API, as these do not show up in the Qualtrics product UI.
XM Plugins
XM Extensions are containers for custom functionality that are developed as XM Plugins, which are the actual interfaces with certain Qualtrics features and are open for integration and customization.
Why
XM Extensions empower developers to close experience gaps for Qualtrics customers by addressing their pain points and feature requests in solutions that they can easily find and use within the Qualtrics marketplace and product itself.
This one-stop-shop approach makes it simple for existing and potential joint customers/users to discover, review, install, and use your custom XM functionality, all within Qualtrics!
Who
Extension Creators
The primary creators and maintainers of XM Extensions are developers.
This documentation, especially the more technical portions, is written for people with either development or strong technical experience.
Roles in product management, partnerships, business development, and others may find some of the high-level information in this documentation useful.
Extension Consumers
Qualtrics customers are the exclusive consumers of XM Extensions.
Relevant documentation for them is provided by XM Extension developers and is scoped to their Extension, related Qualtrics features, and any corresponding external system functionality.
When
Developing Extensions is a good match for your use case if you want to provide a native custom feature within the Qualtrics product.
