Link Session Replay with App Insights Project

In order to use data from your Session Replay, you need to link the Session Replay session ID with the App Insights Project properties.

This integration unlocks the ability to analyze, report, understand, and act on your customer’s experiences in an app and enhances your understanding of existing customer feedback. Follow instructions in this section to learn how to connect Session Replay with App Insights Project to ensure your teams can leverage the Session Replay data to drive actionable improvements and understand what your customers experience first hand.

Configure App Feedback Project

Linking Session Replay session ID with App Feedback intercepts leverages the mechanism of embedded data. This part involves the configuration of the intercept to support additional embedded data fields.

Below part assumes that you have an intercept created in the project. If not, please follow the instructions in Setting up Intercepts manual.

Set embedded data in your intercept.

To push the Session ID, you must add an embedded data field to the intercept's action set.

  1. Open the intercept to which you wish to add embedded data.
  2. Click Options -> Embedded Data and you will see a window with Embedded Data for a given action set.
  3. Click the Add Embedded Data button and Q_SR_ID as a name for your field. Also make sure that the Value option is set to Custom Property.

For more information about embedded data and surveys, see embedded data tutorial.

Set value in the Survey Flow.

To view the newly created embedded data field in your survey results, ensure you add the field to the survey flow.

  1. Open the survey to which you want to attach embedded data in the results.
  2. Make sure you have the Survey tab opened.
  3. On the left panel select Survey flow.
  4. Use the green button at the bottom to add a new element, then select the Embedded Data element. If an Embedded Data element is already present, you can add a new field to the existing one.
  5. Click on Add a New Field within the Embedded Data element and enter the Q_SR_ID name.

For more information about embedded data in survey flows, see Embedded Data Options

For everything to work as expected, we need to ensure we link session IDs with intercepts directly in the code. In the App Feedback Framework, this is accomplished by utilizing the properties object. It enables saving key-value pairs for later attachment to displayed creatives.

Ensure that the App Feedback Project is configured in your code. If it isn't, please follow these steps.

val result = QualtricsSR.instance().startRecording()
if (result is SessionStartResult.Success) {
Qualtrics.instance().properties.setString(
"Q_SR_ID",
result.sessionInfo.sessionId
)
}
